Roof Repair in Pittsburgh, PA

What We Mean By Honest Repair
There's a version of this business where the roofer shows up, finds whatever they want to find, and sells you the most expensive option. We do not run that version.
Plenty of Pittsburgh roofers will sell you a repair on a roof that's two years from total failure. They patch the leak, take your money, and you call somebody else 18 months later when the next leak shows up. We will not do that. If you call us out for a leak and the underlying roof has another decade of life in it, we patch the leak and you're done. If the underlying roof is shot and a repair is just buying you six months, we tell you that — and quote both the repair AND the replacement so you can make an informed decision.
Either way, the inspection is free. Either way, you get the truth in writing. That's the whole company in one sentence.
Common Pittsburgh Roof Repairs
These are the repair jobs we handle most often, in rough order of frequency:
- Ice dam damage in late winter and early spring — snow melts, refreezes at the eaves, and water backs up under shingles. Shows up as ceiling stains in second-floor rooms or visible water in the attic.
- Wind-lifted or missing shingles on ridges, hips, and west-facing slopes — we replace the missing shingles, re-seal surrounding shingles, and inspect adjacent areas that the wind probably stressed.
- Flashing failures around chimneys, skylights, and sidewall transitions — we rip out the failed flashing, install new step flashing with proper interlock, and re-bed counter flashing into the brick with fresh sealant.
- Cracked or missing shingles from hail and falling branches — we do a hands-on inspection (not just ground-level) to identify cracked shingles and replace them before they leak.
- Failed pipe boots around plumbing vents — the rubber gasket dries out and cracks, usually after 8-12 years. Easy fix that often catches a leak before any interior damage shows up.
- Granule loss exposing the asphalt mat to UV — once you can see the mat through bare patches, the shingle is on borrowed time.
- Skylight leaks — skylight reflashing is one of the trickier repair jobs, and we do a lot of it on 1990s and 2000s homes in Peters Township, Upper St. Clair, and the South Hills.
When Repair Is Better Than Replacement
Repair makes sense when:
- The damage is isolated (one section, one penetration, one slope)
- The underlying roof is less than 15 years old and in good condition
- There's no widespread granule loss, curling, or sagging
- The leak source is clearly identifiable
- Insurance is covering the repair after a storm event
A good repair on a healthy roof can extend its life another 10-15 years. The math works heavily in repair's favor when the rest of the roof has life in it.
When Replacement Is Smarter Than Another Repair
Replacement makes more sense when:
- The roof is 20+ years old and showing multiple failure points
- We've already done one or two repairs and new leaks keep appearing in different spots
- There's significant granule loss across most of the roof surface
- Decking has soft spots or visible sagging
- The current shingles are discontinued or unmatched (cosmetically the repair will be obvious)
- You're planning to sell within 2-3 years and want a strong roof for inspection
Buying six months of life from a $1,200 repair on a $15,000 problem isn't usually the right move. We tell you when that math is working against you.
Emergency Repairs and Storm Damage
Active leaks after a storm get priority response. If water is actively coming into your house, call us at 412-844-5999 and we'll get someone there as fast as we can — usually same day or next morning depending on the weather.
For active leaks, the first move is usually a temporary tarp or emergency patch to stop the water immediately. Permanent repair gets scheduled within a week. We document everything with photos for insurance purposes.
For storm damage where insurance is involved, we work directly with adjusters. We provide documentation of damage, an itemized estimate for the repair or replacement, and the photos and measurements adjusters need. Most claims process faster when the roofer and the adjuster speak the same language — that's us.
What Roof Repairs Cost in Pittsburgh
Most Pittsburgh roof repairs fall in these ranges:
- Single shingle replacement, accessible location: $300-$500
- Multiple shingle replacement after wind damage: $500-$1,200
- Pipe boot replacement: $300-$450 per boot
- Chimney flashing rework: $800-$1,800 depending on chimney size and complexity
- Skylight reflashing: $800-$1,500 per skylight

Roof Repair FAQs
How fast can you respond to a leak?
For active leaks, we aim for same-day or next-morning response depending on the weather. Call 412-844-5999 and let us know it's actively leaking — that goes to the top of the schedule.
Do you handle insurance claim repairs?
Yes. We document damage, prepare estimates in the format adjusters need, and work directly with insurance companies to make sure the claim is processed fairly. We do not handle the claim on your behalf as a public adjuster would — but we provide all the documentation your adjuster needs to do their job.
Will my manufacturer warranty be voided if I repair instead of replace?
Generally no, as long as the repair is done correctly with compatible materials. We use shingles that match (or closely match) your existing roof and follow manufacturer-approved repair methods. If you have a transferable manufacturer warranty, repairs done by a certified contractor like us preserve that warranty.
Can you repair a roof in winter?
We can do most repairs year-round, but shingles need temperatures above 45°F to seal properly. In sub-freezing weather we can still do emergency tarp work and indoor-side leak diagnosis, but actual shingle replacement is best when conditions allow. For emergency leaks in winter we tarp, document, and schedule the permanent fix for the next break in the weather.
How do you find the source of a leak?
Leaks often appear in your ceiling many feet from where the water is actually entering the roof. We start with a visual inspection of the attic to follow the water path back to its entry point, then go on the roof to identify the actual failure (cracked shingle, failed flashing, ice damming, etc.). Sometimes we run a water test where we hose specific areas to confirm the source.
What if the repair doesn't hold?
We warranty our workmanship. If a repair we did fails within the warranty period and the failure was due to our installation, we come back and fix it at no charge. If a new leak develops in a different part of the roof unrelated to our repair, that's a separate job — we'll diagnose and quote it honestly.
Do I need a permit for a roof repair?
Most Pittsburgh-area municipalities don't require a permit for spot repairs. Larger repair jobs (replacing significant decking, doing extensive flashing rework) sometimes need a permit — we handle that if it applies.
